POCAHONTAS, Va.- The Pocahontas Exhibition mine will offer bus tours on Oct. 1 during the Pumpkin Festival. The tours will leave from the Exhibition Mine and make stops or drive by several significant landmarks in the town.
“There’s such a rich history that surrounds coal mining in Pocahontas,” said Mayor Benjamin Gibson. “We decided to take this opportunity to teach people about some of the buildings that have beautiful architecture or stories you have to hear.”
The bus will leave from the Exhibition Mine at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. Children five and under can ride for free. The ticket price also includes a tour of the Exhibition Mine. Money raised will go to continue tourism efforts at the mine.
Stops will include the Opera House, Yates Library and the Catholic Church. A tour guide will offer historically significant information about those landmarks as well as others like the Stone Church, Company Store and the Town Tower.
Seating is limited on the bus. To reserve your seat you can call 276-945-9522 during business hours or send an email to [email protected].
“Cash and checks are only accepted. The Exhibition Mine stays cool year round so remember your jacket for touring, organizers said.
