CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — The Louis A. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center dismissed several employees this week as a part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ effort to eliminate probationary employees.

The exact number of positions removed was not given, but a spokesperson said it was a “small number.”

“This decision will have no negative effect on veteran health care, benefits or other services and will allow VA to focus more effectively on its core mission of serving veterans, families, caregivers and survivors,” said Louis A. Johnson VAMC visual informational specialist Chris Jurick.

VA officials did not say what roles the fired probationary employees had filled, but in a statement noted that most of the department’s 43,000 probationary workers nationwide are exempt from federal workforce reductions because they serve in mission critical positions.
