New West Virginia House Speaker has focus on small business growth

MARTINSBURG, W.Va.  — Wanted: Small business entrepreneurs with fresh ideas.

Newly appointed House of Delegates Speaker Roger Hanshaw makes no bones about West Virginia’s future economy being tied to getting new small businesses to start here.

“We’re still far too dependent upon19th and 20th century industries,” said Hanshaw, R-Clay, 38, who was appointed House Speaker on Aug. 28. “We’ve not done nearly enough to embrace entrepreneurial activity here. We’ve not done nearly enough to incentivize people here to be creative and want to put up something new.”
