CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia House of Delegates member Justin Marcum, D-Mingo, and others have introduced legislation to permanently fix PEIA.

House Bill 4341 was drafted by Marcum and co-sponsored by McDowell County Delegate Ed Evans and Wayne County Delegates Robert Thompson and Ken Hicks.

The legislation will dedicate 35 percent of the severance tax on natural gas from the general fund to PEIA. This will raise nearly $100 million to help fill the $65 million gap in funding needed to fully fund PEIA.

“PEIA is an insurance program for all state workers and has been minimally funded the past two years under the new legislative majority,” Marcum said.

“I pleaded with the majority last year to run an amendment of his that would fully fund PEIA, but they refused. I worked hard last year to stop this issue, but the majority was more worried about their own interests.”
