MEDIA ADVISORY: West Virginia Press Association to host 2025 Legislative Lookahead, speakers announced

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Press Association will host the 2025 Legislative Lookahead on Friday, Feb. 7, from 10 am until 2 pm at the Culture Center located on Capitol grounds. 

West Virginia Legislative Leadership Panel – W.Va. Senate President Randy Smith, Speaker of the House Roger Hanshaw, Senate Minority Leader Mike Woelfel (or his designee) and House Minority Leader Sean Hornbuckle. 

Summary — up to 75 minutes: The panel will discuss areas of focus and legislation they expect in the 2025 session. There will be an opportunity for questions from the media at the end. 

Panel Discussion – WV Attorney General J.B. McCuskey, WV State Treasurer Larry Pack, WV State Auditor Mark Hunt and WV Secretary of State Kris Warner. 

Summary — 45 minutes: The panel will discuss what they expect in 2025. There will be an opportunity for questions from the media at the end.

Lunch with a presentation from Fred King, WVU Vice President for Research

Summary – 45 minutes:  This presentation will tie together research, service, and its impact. It will reinforce the economic ROI of R1-level research at West Virginia University and how it aids the state of West Virginia.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has been invited to attend. 

Summary — up to 45 minutes: The Governor or his designee will provide details pertaining to the goals of his administration for his first year in office. There will be an opportunity for questions from the media at the end.
