MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Dozens of farmers, advocates and other local stakeholders gathered for a roundtable discussion at Orr’s Farmers Market on Thursday.
The roundtable was part of a larger program, led by Sophia Adelle, head of policy for the Farmlink Project, meant to bring together groups like the USDA and the Department of Agriculture for West Virginia and other surrounding states.
One of the biggest programs for apple growers, which was discussed at length during the event, is the West Virginia Apple Rescue — a program built to help farmers with apple surpluses to charities focused on feeding hungry Americans.
