Huntington episode of HBO ‘Vice’ series airing soon

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — After President Barack Obama’s visit to Charleston in October, HBO’s “Vice” made two trips to Huntington to film footage for an episode about the drug epidemic.

One of those trips included a ride along with the Huntington Fire Department and Deputy Chief Jan Rader, who is also part of the Mayor’s Office of Drug Control Policy. During that ride along, the fire department and EMS were called to a home for an overdose, and saved the man with naloxone.

Days later, that man entered Recovery Point of Huntington.

Executive Director of Recovery Point Matt Boggs said “Vice” was recently back in town to follow up with that man and highlight his recovery.

Boggs said it’s easy to talk about the epidemic, while the recovery side is easily overlooked.

“It’s almost bittersweet because I tell folks I would be OK if they came in tomorrow and said no one is addicted, there’s no epidemic and we don’t need you working anymore,” he said. “The flip side is we know we are in the middle of epidemic…
