Harrison County (West Virginia’s) Del. Riley: New House committee process to allow deeper consideration, more public input

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The new committee process in the West Virginia House of Delegates will allow lawmakers to consider issues more deeply and give the public additional opportunities to provide feedback, Del. Clay Riley, R-Harrison, said Friday.

When the Legislature’s 2025 session begins Wednesday, the House will implement a set three-day process for considering bills and will have six standing committees instead of 20.

“We are making some slight modifications on the House side to investigate the issues and the problems that we’re trying to solve and get a little bit deeper to the foundational solutions,” Riley said during the annual Legislative Lookahead event hosted by the West Virginia Press Association.

The new process allows “more public input,” Riley said.
