Gov. Morrisey appoints Fayette County judge to the state supreme court

BLUEFIELD — Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Wednesday that after considering several highly-qualified applicants, he had appointed a Fayette County native and circuit judge to the Mountain State’s supreme court.

Speaking on social media from his office in Charleston, Morrisey said that he had appointed Circuit Court Judge Thomas H. Ewing to the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. The governor signed the order appointing Ewing to the supreme court during the press conference.

“Through the appointment process set by West Virginia State Code, the Judicial Vacancy Advisory Committee received 15 applications from individuals across the state to fill the vacancy,” Morrisey said. “The committee interviewed the applicants. After careful consideration, they sent me a list of four of those applicants for recommendation.”

The governor said that selection process was long and detailed.
