HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Five of Cabell County’s elected officials have filed a suit against the Cabell County Commission because of cuts to the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1.
Clerk Karen Cole, Prosecuting Attorney Sean “Corky” Hammers, Circuit Clerk Jeffrey Hood, Assessor Irv Johnson and Sheriff Tom McComas filed suit against Cabell County commissioners Anne Yon, Bob Bailey and Nancy Cartmill following the approval of the $21.7 million budget for 2016-17 that included a 10 percent cut to every department.
The 10 percent across-the-board cuts were the result of a drop in revenue, an increase in the jail bill and an increase in the health insurance costs, Beth Thompson, Cabell County administrator, stated in an email Wednesday.
