ELKINS — The Robert C. Byrd Corridor H Highway Authority has passed a resolution supporting Gov. Jim Justice’s “Roads to Prosperity” road building initiative and encourages eligible voters in West Virginia to vote in favor of the referendum authorizing the sale of road bonds. The referendum will occur on Oct. 7.
Its passage will make $1.6 billion available for road construction, improvement, and expansion projects throughout West Virginia.
Chairman Robbie Morris explained the Authority’s action as follows: “If West Virginia’s economy is going to grow, we have to improve, expand, and complete roads like Corridor H. Practically all industries that currently call West Virginia home will benefit from a completed Corridor H, including hardwoods, tourism, manufacturing, and more.
“Citizens of West Virginia have been waiting 50 years for Corridor H to be completed and the passage of this road bond will help us get closer to making their dream a reality.
“Voting to approve the referendum will generate $1.6 billion for road construction projects without raising taxes or fees past their current levels,”Morris said. “This is an initiative the Authority wholeheartedly endorses and supports.”
The Robert C. Byrd Corridor H Highway Authority was established in 1997 by an act of the Legislature to promote the construction and use of Corridor H so economic and community development improvements could be realized by completion of Corridor H.
