CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The rest of the world may soon get a glimpse at the work of officers from the Charleston Police Department. The reality television show “Cops” will film an episode featuring the department this spring, officials said.

At its regular meeting Monday, Charleston City Council approved an agreement with Langley Productions to allow the company to film.

Charleston Police Chief Steve Cooper said he thinks being featured on the show will help the department with recruitment efforts in the future.
“We believe that it will be something that will be good for the morale of the officers that work here,” Cooper said after the meeting. “To show what they do for the rest of the country to see their level of professionalism and some of the issues that we’re facing here as well as some of the opportunities we have to help people.”

“Cops,” known for its theme song “Bad Boys,” is a documentary/reality style show that follows law enforcement activities. It debuted in 1989 and is one of the longest-running TV shows in the United States, according to its website.
