CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Del. Mike Pushkin, D-Kanawha, said he is gaining support for an investigation that could ultimately lead to the impeachment of state Supreme Court Chief Justice Allen Loughry.
On Jan. 11, Pushkin asked for signatures on a resolution that would give the House Judiciary Committee power to investigate whether Loughry should be removed from office.
Some state lawmakers hold Loughry responsible for cost overruns and lavish furniture expenses on a $3.7 million Supreme Court renovation begun in 2008 that saw the court spend hundreds of thousands of dollars renovating the offices of the justices. Expenses included a $32,000 couch in Loughry’s office.
