WASHINGTON (WV News) — Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., said she is waiting for more details before deciding whether to support President Donald Trump’s reported plan to eliminate the U.S. Department of Education.
Trump, who campaigned on a promise to dismantle the department, is said to be preparing an executive order that would halt its operations while calling on Congress to formally abolish it.
Capito, who has heard media reports of the proposal, said Thursday that she wants to see the specifics before taking a stance.
“I’m going to look and see what the president’s proposal is, and I’m not going to weigh in,” she said. “Because we don’t even know if he’s going to attempt to do this or what direction he’ll go.”
