Burch appointed W.Va. State Superintendent of Schools

Release from West Virginia Department of Education:

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The West Virginia State Board of Education announces that, in an emergency meeting, it has appointed Clayton Burch as its Superintendent of Schools effective February 21, 2020.

Contemporaneously, the Board formally accepted the retirement letter of Dr. Steven L. Paine and expressed its appreciation to him for his service to the citizens of the State of West Virginia.

The Board respects Dr. Paine’s decision to devote his time to the health of a family member. Consistent with its prior announcement, the Board will continue its national search for a Superintendent while Mr. Burch fulfills his obligations as a Constitutional Officer of the State of West Virginia.
