Beth Walker chosen as next chief of West Virginia’s supreme court

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — The only justice of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals to face an impeachment trial will be the new chief justice starting next year.

Justice Beth Walker will take over as chief justice of the state’s highest court starting Jan. 1, 2019. She was chosen by her fellow justices by acclamation during an administrative conference Monday, according to a press release.

“My commitment to greater transparency and accountability in the judicial branch is unwavering, and I am ready to work with the Legislature toward better oversight of the court’s budget,” Walker said.
