CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — An amendment seeking to provide a funding stream for the Public Employees Insurance Agency was adopted into a Senate sports betting bill on Monday.

The amendment is the second in two weeks seeking to provide funding for PEIA.

The Senate permits wagering on certain professional or collegiate sports events authorized as West Virginia Lottery sports wagering.

Delegate John Unger, D-Berkeley, offered an amendment that would have $15 million generated by sports wagering activity to go to lottery and the rest to the PEIA Stability Fund.

Sen. Craig Blair, R-Berkeley, spoke in favor of the amendment but said this alone would not fix the funding needs of PEIA.
