MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU’s Faculty Senate discussed a bill introduced in the West Virginia House of Delegates that would remove faculty, staff and student representatives from being able to vote on the WVU Board of Governors at a regular meeting Monday.
The bill, House Bill 3279, was introduced in the House’s regular session Monday.
Faculty Senate Chair Diana Davis said the bill is “very concerning” during her report, emphasizing the importance of having student and faculty input in the University’s governing process.
“Faculty, staff and student voices are critical in providing broad and comprehensive input into the governing process for this University. The introduction of this bill is disappointing at best. We will be studying and monitoring the bill and providing feedback and guidance to faculty as the legislative session continues,” Davis said.
Joe Jones, professor in the College of Creative Arts and Media, asked if the University would be required to comply with the bill if it passes.
