CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice kicked off West Virginia State Employees Combined Campaign fund with a program that will benefit all 14 United Ways in the state.
The state campaign raises funds primarily through employee payroll deductions, according to a news release from the state Department of Environmental Protection. Every employee can participate and each contribution can be directed to the United Way of an employee’s choosing.
“We are on the path to prosperity but many of our citizens are still in need,” Justice said in the DEP release. “By contributing to this campaign, state employees will once again reinforce how much they care about the state of West Virginia and its citizens.”
Caperton has been a long-term participant in the United Way’s efforts, the release said. He is the campaign chair this year for the United Way of Southern West Virginia
“I love working with the United Way,” Caperton said in the release. “I know the money I donate will be put to good use. The United Ways put boots on the ground, visit and interview people in every organization that asks for money, review findings with their local United Way board of directors and then distributes funds based on the organization’s merits.”
