Concord University’s pre-licensure nursing graduates set the bar at 100 percent

ATHENS, W.Va. — Concord University’s first cohort of pre-licensure nursing graduates has a 100 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX RN) and a 100 percent employment rate. The final test score was reported on Friday, Aug. 1, and all graduates are serving as nurses in the region.

Accomplishing a 100 percent pass rate is an important milestone for CU’s nursing program. This group of students was the first to enter the nursing program without prior nursing experience and  progress through the entire curriculum. Their accomplishments speak to the hard work of our students and the high standards set by our nursing program.

“When given the option to use existing nursing curricula, we chose instead to build a program from the ground up, drawing on over 100 years of combined nursing experience from our new faculty,”  said Michele Holt, director of nursing. “The guidance from our administrators, instructional designers, and staff was invaluable, and our students’ dedication to excellence was the heartbeat  of it all. This was the perfect setup for success. It’s a win for everyone at Concord University and the many patients these nurses will serve.”

Concord University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program was approved in 2022, and this first class entered in fall 2023. These students entered the program from different backgrounds, all  seeking a new career in nursing.

We offer three options in the nursing program: a traditional 4-year-BSN, BA/BS to BSN, and online RN to BSN path. All paths lead to providing highly qualified nurses to the health care workforce.
