SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Regional Technology Park (WVRTP) welcomed members of the business community and public officials this evening (July 30) for a special reception honoring Dr. Michael T. Benson, the 27th president of West Virginia University.

The event served as both a welcome reception and a strategic networking opportunity focused on business growth, workforce development, research and innovation.

“We were honored to host President Benson and many of our regional partners who are dedicated
to moving West Virginia forward,” said Matt Ballard, CEO/Executive Director of the WVRTP. “The energy in the room reflects the Park’s mission — building a thriving, innovation-driven business community.

Dr. Benson, who began his tenure as WVU president this month, shared his vision for stronger university-industry collaboration across the state.

“As the Mountain State’s flagship, land-grant institution, West Virginia University is committed to helping drive West Virginia’s economy through innovation, workforce development and strategic partnerships,” Benson said. “Engaging directly with leaders at the West Virginia Regional Technology Park and across the Kanawha Valley reinforces our shared goals of progress and prosperity.”

Georgette George, chair of the WVRTP Board of Directors and CEO of Monarch Holdings, LLC, noted, “The Technology Park continues to evolve as a center of economic impact, innovation, and discovery, each day people from 21 counties work at the Park,” said George. “Events like these remind us of the power of connection and shared vision in shaping the future of West Virginia.”

With more than 30 businesses employing over 1,000 individuals on site and a total economic impact of $161.8 million annually, the WVRTP is a hub for innovation in the advanced manufacturing, chemical, energy, and technology sectors.
