CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia’s process for selecting delegates to represent our state at the Republican National Convention has proven to be confusing and sometimes downright difficult to understand.
Voters are asked to select no more than 22 candidates on the “at-large” ballot and an additional three from their congressional district. But it’s not quite that simple.
According to the rules of the state Republican Party, no more than two at-large candidates from each county and seven at-large candidates from each district will be selected for the convention out of the top vote getters. The top overall vote getter, no matter district or county, will round out the at-large slate. Sounds like an algebra problem.
