Ex-Wayne assessor gets probation for embezzlement

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Former Wayne County Assessor Eric Hodges was placed on five years’ probation Wednesday for embezzling more than $50,000 from the county.

Hodges had pleaded guilty to two counts of felony embezzlement in January and faced a maximum 20 years in prison. Each count had a one- to 10-year sentence and a maximum $2,500 fine. As part of the plea, Hodges must pay $58,007 in restitution to the Wayne County Commission.

Senior Judge Thomas Steptoe Jr., of Charles Town, West Virginia, handed down the sentence.
