Freedom Industries President Gary Southern avoided questions from reporters as he left the company’s bankruptcy hearing in downtown Charleston Tuesday evening. He testified the company is in a “death spiral” following the Jan. 9 chemical leak into the Elk River.
A judge has allowed Mountaineer Funding to loan $3 million to Freedom as the company carries on business as usual. J. Clifford Forrest owns Mountaineer Funding and also owns Chemstream Holdings, the parent company of Freedom Industries.
