W.Va. State Society’s Annual State Birthday Celebration set for June 20

Birthday celebration on Capitol Hill as West Virginia turns 155

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 31, 2018) – The West Virginia State Society (WVSS) is hosting its annual State Birthday Celebration – featuring a Taste of the State – Wednesday, June 20, 2018, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in room G‐50 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

The Capitol Hill event observes the day West Virginia entered the Union during the Civil War on June 20, 1863. WVSS members, the West Virginia Congressional delegation and staff, special guests and friends of West Virginia are invited to celebrate the Mountain State’s 155th birthday in the Nation’s Capital.

According to event chair and Charleston native, Kathleen DuBois, “The annual State Birthday Celebration is the West Virginia State Society’s signature event. We have a wonderful planning committee comprised of West Virginia natives who now live and work in the Washington, DC region.”

A main event feature will be a “Taste of the State” showcasing food, beverage and entertainment from across West Virginia. To date, this year’s list includes:

  • Bloomery Plantation Distillery – Charles Town, WV
  • Capon Springs and Farms – Capon Springs, WV
  • Chico Bakery – Morgantown, WV
  • Contemporary American Theater Festival – Shepherdstown, WV
  • Greenbrier Valley Brewery – Maxwelton, WV
  • Hawk Knob Appalachian Cider & Mead – Lewisburg, WV
  • LeSage Natural Water – Lesage, WV
  • Orr’s Farm Market – Martinsburg, WV
  • Stardust Café/General Lewis Inn – Lewisburg, WV
  • Vagabond Kitchen – Wheeling, WV

Guests for the Birthday Celebration can register, at no cost, through an online RSVP. Those wishing to join WVSS can pay annual membership dues on the website, which helps defray costs of events and programs throughout the year.
