Suspects identified in Lewisburg police shooting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Authorities have identified two men who allegedly shot two Lewisburg police officers on Thursday, after allegedly killing a couple in North Carolina earlier in the day.

Eric Campbell, 21 and his father, Edward Campbell, 54, face charges of attempted murder and malicious assault, said West Virginia State Police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous. Both men were last known to be living in Texas.

The pair were arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 64 near the Lewisburg exit at around 4 p.m. Thursday, Baylous said.

Lewisburg police officers Jeromy Dove and Nicholas Sams pulled over a white Chevrolet SUV that was reported stolen from North Carolina. When the officers pulled over the SUV, a red Chevrolet pickup truck also pulled off of the road, Baylous said.

A man in the truck allegedly pulled a gun and fired at both city police officers, hitting them both, Baylous said.
