Register-Herald Newspapers seeking editor

BECKLEY, W.Va — Register-Herald Newspapers of Beckley, W.Va., is seeking an experienced editor for its top newsroom leadership position in the “newsiest region of southern West Virginia.”

The position is responsible for news content for a seven-day, 18,000-circulation newspaper, two weeklies, award-winning magazines, other niche products and the growing digital platforms.

“The editor needs a strong management background, editorial writing skills, print and digital credentials, and communication abilities to coach reporters and editors to do their best work. We prize local news, feature, sports and photo content in print and online. We serve print and online readers in four counties,” a spokesperson said.

The editor oversees a staff of 27 fulltime and two part-time journalists, is a key member of the senior management team and has a voice in strategic initiatives undertaken by the company.

Beckley is the hub of southern West Virginia, located at the intersection of Interstates 77 and 64. The region is home to the new Summit Bechtel National Scout Reserve, the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree and High Adventure Base, and the internationally-known Greenbrier resort hotel and golf course. West Virginia University, the state’s land grant university, will open a campus in Beckley in the fall of 2016. “The region is considered an outdoor mecca, featuring whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking and ATV trails among other activities,” a spokesperson said.
