President Kennedy’s death being commemorated by prayer vigil

GLENVILLE — A “Commemoration Ceremony and Prayer Vigil in Memory of President John F. Kennedy” will take place at 6 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 22, 2013, the 50th anniversary of his assassination.
The event will be in Glenville’s new City Square Park in the downtown. Glenville is located 15 miles off I-79, halfway between Charleston and Morgantown, just 20 miles south of the Weston Exit.
The co-sponsors of this ceremony are the Glenville newspapers and the Gilmer County Historical Society.
Dave Corcoran, Sr., Glenville newspaper publisher, explains, “During the 1960 Primary Election Campaign, President Kennedy came to West Virginia, observed our problems and, after being elected, sought to solve them. His Head Start and Food Stamps programs, which later went national, started out as pilot projects in McDowell County’s ailing coalfields. Then, his emphasis on community service led to the formation of the Peace Corps and a national fitness program. He’ll also be remembered by many for the zest that he brought to the federal government and advocacy of the good that politics can do to help the less fortunate Americans.”
This salute and prayer vigil to President Kennedy’s memory is nonpolitical, nondenominational and free to the general public. Local ministers will be the featured speakers, with a musical assist from Glenville State College’s music dept.
