Payne takes WVGA Senior Series Low Round at Lewisburg Elks Country Club

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — Harold Payne of Hurricane shot Tuesday’s Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at the Senior Series event, hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) and sponsored by Little General Stores, at Lewisburg Elks Country Club at three under par 67.  

The West Virginia Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the  WVGA, is for players ages 50 and up.  

“We are excited to have the WVGA senior golfers back on our course and we really looked forward to  it,” said Lewisburg’s Head Golf Professional David Jones. “The greens and fairways were in great condition for  the golfers today.” 

Overall, 53 players enjoyed the WVGA the day’s Senior Series event. Categories are: Senior, 50-59;  Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and Diamond, 80+. 

“It was great to enjoy the cooler temperatures in Lewisburg and the mountains of southern West  Virginia,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Series Sarah Cole. “This is a great venue for our senior golfers.” 

In addition to Payne winning the Silver Gross category, other winners were: 

• Senior Gross: Damian Ellis of Hillsboro, (+2) 74; 

• Senior Net: Rick Grimmett of Man, (-5) 65; 

• Silver Net: Bart Willis of Logan, (-3) 67; 

• Gold Gross: David Eller of Barboursville, (+3) 73; and 

• Gold Net: Michael Wylie of White Sulphur Springs, (-1) 69.
