FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Through the efforts of GameChanger and one of its founding sponsors, MVB Bank, 5,785 elementary school students in grades three through five in schools in Harrison, Marion and Monongalia Counties were treated to a showing of the GameChanger-produced age-appropriate prevention education film You Have What It Takes on Wednesday.
In support of the 38-minute film, all students received prevention education workbooks courtesy of GameChanger and MVB Bank.
GameChanger founder and executive director Joe Boczek says this is just another indication of GameChanger and MVB Bank continuing to educate West Virginia students about the dangers of opioids, substance misuse and deadly fentanyl.
“GameChanger is so grateful to Superintendents Stutler, Heston and Campbell for recognizing the need and value of a strong prevention education program, especially in the third, fourth and fifth grades, where our youth are becoming so impressionable. You Have What It Takes addresses a very serious yet delicate subject in an age-appropriate manner.”
MVB Financial Corp. president and GameChanger founder Don Robinson says MVB Bank is pleased to carry its philosophy of community involvement into schools for such an important initiative.
“Opioids, substance misuse and fentanyl continue to be the number one threat to our kids, our families and our communities and I am so pleased at the results GameChanger continues to achieve not only in our schools, but our communities as well.”
In January, GameChanger will be providing free of charge a link to You Have What It Takes to all West Virginia elementary schools, along with a teacher lesson plan and parent tool kit.
GameChanger is a student-powered substance misuse prevention movement focusing on building school environments that curb drug use by implementing, monitoring and sustaining GameChanger Student Peer Leadership Programs, while empowering youth to make healthy choices as they prepare to be our leaders of tomorrow.
