CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Attorney General Patrick Morrisey yesterday announced his Office’s second Back to School Consumer Protection Week, a week-long series designed to raise awareness of consumer protection issues facing students, will begin Monday, Aug. 17.
The West Virginia Attorney General’s Office will provide tips to help protect students’ personal information, as well as warnings to protect them from common scams.
“Students often fall prey to scammers because they are particularly susceptible to giving out personally identifiable information and using unsecure online services without giving it much thought,” Attorney General Morrisey said. “Safety is a top priority in our Office and these reminders will hopefully prevent students from being taken advantage of or becoming a victim of fraud.”
The Office also will provide daily news releases and other tips on Facebook and Twitter that are designed to provide parents and students with information and educational resources about emerging scams, recognizing fraudulent activity, and understanding consumer rights.
