It was a record-breaking year for kidney transplants at Charleston Area Medical Center.
A celebration will be held Wednesday, March 13, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at CAMC General Hospital (501 Morris St.).
Surgeons completed 128 transplants at CAMC in 2023.
The celebration will include kidney recipients speaking and a release of 128 balloons outside of the main entrance.
In 2023, the Scientific Registry for Transplant Recipients ranked the CAMC Kidney Transplant Center second in the country for the time it takes for patients to be transplanted once they’ve been put on the transplant waitlist. Patients who come to us can receive a transplant within six to eight months, whereas the national average is anywhere between five to seven years.
CAMC is ranked as a Best Regional Hospital and High Performing Hospital for treatment of kidney failure for 2023-2024 by U.S. News & World Report.
CAMC’s Kidney Transplant Center has been a leader in transplantation in West Virginia since 1987.
