Intuit executive to deliver remarks during W.Va. Coding & Cyber Summit Dec. 3 in Charleston

Release from TechConnect West Virginia:

CHARLESTON, W.Va.. – Meeting the challenges posed by cybersecurity threats on the local, state and national level and capitalizing on the opportunities they create are the primary objectives of the Third Annual West Virginia Coding & Cybersecurity Summit, taking place on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston.

“We hear a lot about cyber-attacks on federal government and corporate entities, but, as seen in the recent ransomware attack on local government in Harrison County, everyone is at risk,” said Anne Barth, Executive Director of TechConnect West Virginia. “The Coding & Cybersecurity Summit will highlight the threats we face both nationally and here in West Virginia, showcase initiatives by our colleges and universities to prepare the next generation of coding and cybersecurity workers, and hear about the job opportunities in the field by major industry players.”

Featuring leading industry and educational leaders, the event aims to highlight West Virginia’s efforts to develop a workforce ready to fill the thousands of available jobs in software coding and cybersecurity. Bernard F. McKay, Senior Vice President for Global Corporate Affairs and Chief Public Policy Officer for Intuit Corporation, will offer remarks.  The Intuit Financial Freedom Foundation is a co-sponsor of the event.

This year’s event will place special emphasis on the cybersecurity sector and its workforce needs. Other presentations will cover cyber threats, cybersecurity best practices and cyber awareness policies. Finally, the Summit will profile how the state’s education system is offering students a variety of technology classes and programs, including coding, game development, networking and cybersecurity.

“Technology industry leaders from around the state and nation will share their views on how West Virginia’s workforce can play a greater role in the high-tech economy,” said Barth.  “Growing the tech industry in our state is a pathway to economic progress and this event will highlight the opportunities that exist for our workforce to become a part of this fast-growing sector.”
