HINTON, W.Va. — Members of the U.S. Corps of Engineers team and contractors braved the cold Friday morning to celebrate the completion of a phase of rehabilitation that will ensure that the Bluestone Dam, now operating in its 70th year, will be able to withstand the most extreme weather events.
Finalized in September 2012, phase four of the project included the installation of 278 high strength steel anchors which basically tie the dam to more competent bedrock deep below the surface.
“We want to make sure she is here for another 70 years,” Aaron Smith told the gathered crowd overlooking the dam. …
