BECKLEY – Sixty years ago, a TV show about some castaways on a tropical island became an American icon, so this special anniversary is being celebrated with the publication of a scrapbook about the life and career of the actor who helped bring it to life.
The new book “Island to Icon: The Many Lives of Bob Denver” is going to be the topic at Tamarack near Beckley this coming Sunday when his wife, Dreama Denver, will be on hand to talk about her husband’s career, special memories and the books about him and his work in television, movies and theater.
“It finally came out,” Dreama Denver, who now lives in Mercer County, said about the new book. “It’s just really exciting for me. 2024 is the 60th anniversary of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and I thought that should be commemorated in some way and we decided I would write a book or put together a scrapbook about Bob’s career. And I call the book ‘Island to Icon: The Many Lives of Bob Denver.'”
She said the book is more like of scrapbook.
“I went through every nook and cranny of my house to find really special things to put in the book and those things include pictures of Bob growing up with his mom and dad, brothers and sisters; also memorabilia that his mother had kept,” Denver said.
She will be at Tamarack from 10 a.m.-4 p.m Sunday, Oct. 6.
At 2 p.m., that day, she will host “Conversations with Dreama Denver” in the Tamarack Theater.
