ATHENS, W.Va. – Dr. Shawn Allen, Associate Professor of Social Work at Concord University, has been appointed by Governor Jim Justice to serve on the West Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council.
Dr. Allen’s term will run through June 30, 2028. This appointment is in addition to Dr. Allen currently being a member of the West Virginia Olmstead Council and the West Virginia Behavioral Health Planning Council, further highlighting his commitment to advocating for individuals with disabilities in West Virginia.
Dr. Allen says of the appointment, “It is an immense honor to have been selected by the council and then appointed by Governor Jim Justice to serve on the West Virginia Developmental Disabilities Council. This opportunity allows me to continue my professional advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities while also addressing a personal mission, as my son is autistic. I’m committed to making a positive impact and advocating for the needs and rights of those we serve.”
Dr. Allen’s blend of professional expertise and personal experience uniquely positions him to contribute meaningfully to the council’s efforts. Concord University celebrates Dr. Allen’s appointment and looks forward to the positive changes this work will bring to those impacted by developmental disabilities in West Virginia.
