By Amanda Hayes, The Inter-Mountain

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The start of 2021 brought good news to the City of Buckhannon as it learned its bid to host the World Association of Marching Show Bands World Championships was accepted.

City Recorder Randy Sanders, who will head up the committee to bring the event to Buckhannon July 19-26, 2023, said local resident Brad Kellison approached him with the idea in March 2020 and said, “Let’s present Buckhannon, West Virginia to the world.”

Kellison has volunteered behind the scenes of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival for decades and brought a number of parade units from various cultures all over the world.

“The West Virginia Strawberry Festival has a rich tradition and has given a platform for band championships over the years,” Sanders said. “We can handle an influx of people from around the world, an influx of people from all cultures and can pull out an amazing championship.”
