Athens — Athletics at Callaghan Stadium will be a new experience in Fall 2026 and beyond, thanks in large part to a generous donation from GoMart, Inc. The Gassaway-based company recently contributed $150,000 to assist in funding a new, LED, full-color, 22-foot-wide video scoreboard that Concord athletics officials said will bring Mountain Lion fans closer to the action than ever.

“Concord University Athletics is incredibly grateful for GoMart’s extraordinary $150,000 investment in our student-athletes and the future of Mountain Lion Athletics. This transformational gift will fund a state-of-the-art video scoreboard that will enhance the game-day experience for our fans, strengthen our ability to recruit outstanding student-athletes, and provide new opportunities to recognize our sponsors and community partners,” Concord University Athletic Director Luke Duffy said, welcoming the gift.

One of the most exciting enhancements the video board will bring will be the ability to re-watch key moments in the action, but it will also offer the chance to see real-time stats, athlete spotlights, and “color” information often difficult to deliver during a competition in person. CU will also have the flexibility to promote sponsors, academic programs, and important campus milestones, enhancing the experience for prospective students visiting The Campus Beautiful. The video board will also create an opportunity for fan interactions, such as birthday celebrations, kiss cams, etc., regularly seen at major sporting events.

“Athletics have a unique way of bringing people together, and this new video board will enhance that shared experience for our students, alumni, families, and fans for years to come. GoMart’s generosity will help us showcase the excitement of Mountain Lion athletics while creating new opportunities to celebrate our student-athletes and the traditions that unite our campus community,” Concord President Bethany Meighen said. “We sincerely appreciate GoMart’s continued investment in Concord University and in the success of our students.”

The video board will be situated slightly to the side of the existing scoreboard, aligned with the hash markers located in the middle of the field closest to the home stand. The video component of the board is designed to offer replays of key plays on the field, offering a front-row perspective for every fan in the stadium.

GoMart President Phil Shuman was inspired when he toured Concord’s athletic facilities.

“When we arrived on the site to tour the facilities, I was more than impressed,” Shuman said. “You guys at Concord have formed an unbelievable team, and you’re all focused on one common goal — that’s to improve your facilities and make a better experience, not only for your student-athletes, but for your fanbase as well. That made it an easy decision to contribute towards the new scoreboard.”

Installation is slated to begin this summer and reach completion in early September. The new video board unveiling is anticipated during the Sept. 5 contest between the Mountain Lions and Bluefield State University.

It will also be a tremendous asset for football, soccer, and track & field events at Callaghan Stadium.
