CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Legislators are betting that a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on sports betting will bring some extra money into the state coffers.
In a somewhat rare instance of cooperation, staffs from the Finance and Judiciary committees of both chambers are working together to craft a uniform bill to legalize sports betting at the state’s four racetrack/casinos and the Greenbrier.
During its floor session, the Senate amended on second reading its copy of the bill, SB 415. Later in the days, House Finance reviewed its bill, HB 4396, which contained all the recent changes from both sides of the Capitol, minus the Senate amendment — which they did discuss.
Finance chair Eric Nelson, R-Kanawha, told members that the review of their bill was just for discussion. With the Senate bill up for passage, they’ll work with that when it comes across.
