West Virginia Ethics Commission OKs employment exemptions, including ex-Lottery attorney Boyd

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Ethics Commissioners approved employment exemptions for nine state employees Thursday, including longtime Lottery general counsel Danielle Boyd, who resigned on Wednesday after being placed on indefinite suspension early in September.

Commissioners also approved exemptions for eight Division of Highways engineers or administrators, making a total of 34 Highways officials who have been granted permission to seek private-sector employment since July.

In her letter of resignation to Revenue Secretary Dave Hardy, Boyd raised objections to, “being placed on an indefinite ‘nondisciplinary’ suspension pending investigation, with neither further information about the cause for such an aggressive and unprecedented personnel action, nor details relating to the scope of the ‘pending investigation.’”
