Pope accepts Bransfield’s resignation from diocese; Bransfield resigns, temporary head named

PARKERSBURG, W.Va.  – Pope Francis Thursday named a temporary head of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston where Bishop Michael Bransfield resigned and is under investigation for sexual harrassment against adults.

Francis appointed Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston and instructed him to commence an investigation of Bransfield, the Baltimore Diocese said in a press release early Thursday morning.
