PARKERSBURG, W.Va.  — Gov. Jim Justice brings his Roads to Prosperity Road Bond Referendum tour to the Mid-Ohio Valley today.

The governor is scheduled to hold town hall meetings in Parkersburg and Ripley on the $1.6 billion road bond. He says approval of the measure in an Oct. 7 special election will jump-start the state’s economy by creating 40,000 jobs and financing major road construction projects.

Early voting starts Saturday, Sept. 23.

The first town hall is slated for 10 a.m. today in council chambers on the second floor of the Parkersburg Municipal Building at 1 Government Square. Justice will then head to Ripley City Hall at 203 Church St. for a 12:30 p.m. session.

Both town halls are open to the public, said Kirsten Rhodes, deputy press secretary for the governor.

According to information provided on the governor’s office website, www.governor.wv.gov, there are a total of 23 approved and candidate projects in Wood County, totaling an estimated $75.7 million. In Jackson County, there are 22 projects with an anticipated cost of $57.8 million.

Some of the projects will be funded in part with federal aid, and some will be paid for with revenue from the recently increased gas tax, DMV fees and motor vehicle privilege tax.

About $51 million of the general obligation bond money would be spent in Wood County on expanding West Virginia 14 to four lanes south of Parkersburg and widening West Virginia 2 to five lanes from Valley Mills Road to West Virginia 31.
