Committee strips abortion bill

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  — The House Health Committee took a bill to expand physician notification requirements for performing an abortion on an unemancipated minor, stripped everything out of it and left a bill that makes a few tweaks to existing law.

HB 2002 defines unemancipated minor to mean someone under 18 who is unmarried, or who is under parental or custodial care.

After the bill was explained to the full committee, it passed quickly without discussion, in a voice vote with just a couple no’s.

It goes next to Judiciary.
