RIPLEY, W.Va. — Jackson County Extension Agent John David Johnson believes market livestock totals for the upcoming 2017 Jackson County Junior Fair should total similar to what they were for last year’s fair.

Jackson County Extension Agent John David Johnson believes market livestock totals for the upcoming 2017 Jackson County Junior Fair should total similar to what they were for last year’s fair. The annual fair includes 4-H and FFA market goat, heifer, lamb, rabbit, steer and hog projects, which go on the auction block at the annual marathon Market Livestock Sale set for Friday, July 28, beginning at 11 a.m.

Johnson said 2017 market livestock totals should be about average, although until official market livestock project weigh-ins occur at the fairgrounds, the exact numbers won’t be known. He said he anticipates some 225-230 market hogs, 40-some market steers, 50-60 replacement heifers, 15-17 pens of market rabbits, 100-110 market lambs and 90-100 market goats—not including open classes.
