CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Christmas tree vendors at Charleston’s Capitol Market are preparing for a Black Friday sales rush, as traditionalists who savor the classic looks and spicy aromas of fresh-cut trees hasten to put Thanksgiving behind them to embrace the yuletide holiday season.
A half-dozen vendors were already up and running on Monday, with some having set up shop as early as Saturday.
“We expect to sell 300 trees by the end of the weekend,” said Laura Rusmisell of Upshur County’s French Creek Farms, a longtime Capitol Market tree vendor. “For many families, it’s a tradition to come here and pick out their tree on Thanksgiving weekend. A lot of them come back to the same place, year after year.”
