Ways to have fun on the water in West Virginia

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Trying to take a mini vacation this summer? There are so many different places to go and things to do in just a day around North Central West Virginia.

Sutton, Tygart and Stonewall Jackson lakes, along with the Cheat River, are just a few places where you can spend a day on the water. There are no worries about owning a boat, kayak or canoe, because they can be rented.

At Sutton Lake in Braxton County, the marina offers pontoon boat, fishing boat, kayak, CraigCat, paddleboard and standup paddleboard rentals. The marina has doubled the number of kayaks from six to 12 and added two more jet skis to rent for a total of three.

“The CraigCats are new this year. It’s a two-seater open boat that goes about 30-32 miles per hour. It’s slower than a jet ski, but I like to think it’s sort of like a cross between a jet ski and a pontoon…
