FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The 35th annual West Virginia Three Rivers Festival opened in style with a grand parade through Fairmont Thursday night, ending in Palatine Park where the efforts of the Marion County Commission to revitalize the park and the riverfront were on display for the crowds that gathered.

But the festivities are far from over.

Today, the carnival opens at 5 p.m., and visitors will be able to visit a number of booths, participate in games and take in some amusement rides.

Also on display will be the Bear Hollow Wood Carvers, a group out of Indiana that transforms giant logs into works of art using chainsaws.

There will also a the fifth annual Professional Pepperoni Roll Bake-Off, where area restaurants and bakeries vie for the title of the area’s best bun. And Rick K. and the Allnighters will take the main stage.

Saturday is truly a kids’ day at the park…
