Monongalia kids give money, hair to cancer fight

BLACKSVILLE, W.Va.  — The students of Mason Dixon Elementary School assembled Thursday, April 16, to learn the final count for this year’s Links of Love fundraiser.

First-grade teacher Linda Hennen said the fundraising began April 9 and, in one week’s time, students raised $3,485, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society for research.

“Obviously, they can bring in more than one, but for every dollar the kids bring in, there’s an extra link added to the paper chain,” Hennen said. “This is great, especially when considering the coal mines around here are idling and they’re our source of support…
