FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Animals were getting settled into their new home for a week, and the exhibit hall was slowly filling up with flowers, canned vegetables and more as volunteers worked all day Monday to get ready for today’s opening of the 2016 Mineral County Fair.
It was a quiet day, with a gentle breeze keeping the temperatures comfortable as first-time livestock exhibitors spruced up their animals and “veterans” of the fair life quickly fell into the familiar routine of getting ready for a week of friendships and fun (and a little hard work, too).
In the goat pen, Dalton Getz of Fort Ashby was brushing his boat “Enzo,” as the goat in the next pen stole wood chips through the separating fence.
