Coal companies honored for reclamation efforts

Mining industry representatives from around West Virginia filled the Charleston Civic Center this week for the 42nd Annual West Virginia Mining Symposium. During Friday's activities, Cabinet Secretary Randy Huffman and Harold Ward, director of Mining & Reclamation for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection joined with West Virginia Coal Association representatives to present the annual Reclamation Awards, presented to numerous coal companies in recognition of their efforts to reclaim land. Among the many winners was Green Mountain Coal Company, honored for its efforts at the Colliers Sportsman Highwall Site. At the presentation were WVCA Vice President Jason Bostic, Huffman, Rob Rice and Ron Lane of Green Mountain Coal, Ward and John McDaniel, WVCA Environmental Committee Chairman.
